On Friday February 23, at Trasnocho – Sala Tac in Caracas (Venezuela), there is going to be the vernissage of “Letizia Battaglia. Crónica, vida, amor”, an exhibition organized by the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Caracas in collaboration with the Archivio Letizia Battaglia and with the sponsorship of the Italian Embassy in Caracas.
The exhibition, curated by Marco Meneguzzo, brings together a set of 89 photographs by Letizia Battaglia (Palermo, March 5, 1935 – Palermo, April 13, 2022), considered one of the first Italian photojournalists. The selection of works shows not only the intense work carried out by Battaglia in documenting the horror of death produced by the mafia in Sicily, but also, and perhaps even more important, the persistence of gestures of affection and joy in the daily life of their habitants.

El viernes 23 de febrero inauguramos “Letizia Battaglia. Crónica, vida, amor”, exposición organizada por el Istituto Italiano di Cultura di Caracas en colaboración con el Archivio Letizia Battaglia y con el patrocinio de la Embajada de Italia en Caracas.
La muestra, curada por Marco Meneguzzo, reúne un conjunto de 89 fotografías de Letizia Battaglia (Palermo, 5 de marzo de 1935 -13 de abril de 2022), considerada una de las primeras fotoperiodistas italianas. La selección de obras evidencia, no sólo el intenso trabajo desarrollado por Battaglia al documentar el horror de la muerte producido por la mafia en Sicilia, sino también, y quizás aún más importante, la persistencia de los gestos de afecto y alegría en la cotidianidad de sus habitantes.
